Seattle Times’ adult-family-home investigation wins national award

Seattle Times staff reporter Michael J. Berens won a national award for health-care reporting Tuesday for “Seniors for Sale,” a series about problems in the state’s adult family homes.

Berens was awarded first place in the large-newspaper category by the Association of Health Care Journalists. Finalists included The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.

Adult homes are private residences, licensed by the state, whose owners charge for room and care.
